Polymer tantalum capacitor technology was developed in response to demands from the market to lower the ESR of tantalum capacitors while preserving their small case size and high reliability. The technology is promising in several aspects. The higher quality interface between the dielectric and the polymer cathode increases the breakdown voltage of the device, as well as reducing its DC leakage current, even at extreme radiation exposure conditions.

AVX will cease to manufacture MIL-PRF-55681/4 styles CDR11, CDR12, CDR13, and CDR14 with the BG dielectric. (90 ± 20ppm). AVX will continue to support same styles with BP dielectric (0±30ppm).

Today, one can hardly find a consumer, industrial or high-reliability electronic device that does not make use of a voltage regulator. Designers basically use two types of regulators, linear LDO (low dropout) and step-down switch-mode DC/DC regulators to convert the voltage to lower level. Switching DC/DC regulators are preferred for applications that require a greater difference between input and output voltages because they are more efficient in such operating conditions.
