The European Space Components Coordination (ESCC) Qualified Parts List (QPL) is a vital resource for the space industry, detailing components that meet stringent quality requirements. The latest edition, Edition 252, released in July 2024, includes new certificates, extensions, rescoping of qualifications, removals, and editorial changes. This post summarizes these latest updates, with insights into the implications of each modification for manufacturers and users.
New Certificates
275K, Certificate from Comepa (France)
This certification follows the relocation of Comepa’s manufacturing and testing activities from Bagnolet to Tremblay. It includes bimetallic thermostatic switches, specifically Single Pole Single Throw (SPST) switches based on the TH47 model, as described in ESCC 3702/001 and ESCC 3702/002. This move ensures continuity in production and quality for these thermostatic components.
389, Certificate from Microchip Technology (France)
This new certificate qualifies the Radiation-Hardened 32-Bit ARM CORTEX-M7 Microcontroller (SAMV71RT), now listed under ESCC 9512/007. This advanced microcontroller is critical for space applications requiring robust, radiation-tolerant processing power, ensuring high performance in the demanding space environment.
Extensions with Rescope
Certificate extensions with rescoping signal not only the continuation of validity but also changes in the scope of the certificate. This update includes:
366B, Certificate from Kyocera AVX Components (Czech Republic)
The range of qualified tantalum capacitors has been expanded to include models up to 680µF and 50V.
Extensions
Several certificates have received extensions, which extend their validity without altering the technical scope:
- Souriau Connection Technology (France): Certificates 220M, 221M, 222M, and 223L, covering circular bayonet coupling connectors based on the MIL-C-38999 series, have been extended. These connectors remain crucial in ensuring reliable connections in aerospace systems.
- TE Connectivity MEAS (Ireland): The 266L certificate for Negative Temperature Coefficient (NTC) thermistors, based on types G15K4D489 and K3A35, has been extended. These thermistors are vital for temperature sensing in space applications.
- W.L. Gore (Germany): Certificates 255N, 328E, and 380A have been extended, covering various types of wires and cables. These include radio frequency coaxial, triaxial, and lightweight fluorothermoplastic/polyimide insulated cables. These wires ensure lightweight yet durable connections for spacecraft electrical systems.
- Flux A/S (Denmark): The 364B certificate, covering custom magnetics like inductors, chokes, and transformers, has also been extended, continuing its essential role in space power systems.
Removal
88M Certificate from REL-STPI (France)
This certificate has been removed due to unsuccessful mechanical test results, as noted under NCCS 2CREL401. The removal indicates that these components no longer meet the stringent standards required for ESCC qualification, emphasizing the importance of maintaining high-quality performance.
Editorial Changes
Two certificates have undergone minor editorial changes, correcting typographical errors and clarifying historical data:
- 225K Certificate from Exens Solutions (France): Corrections have been made to the variant numbering and manufacturer name.
- 281H Certificate from Smiths Interconnect Hypertac (France): The initial qualification date has been corrected to August 2007 instead of the previously listed 1998 date.
