These thermoplastic filaments are often made with copper, but occasionally carbon and graphene are used instead. The latter are more brittle than copper, however, and have a tendency to shatter when subjected to significant vibrations.

MELF Resistors, Thin &Thick Film Technologies in Head to Head Competition
Vishay released animation on comparison of thin film, thick film, and MELF resistor technologies against each other in tests of pulse load handling capabilities and drift. Explore why MELF resistor is the clear winner.

Displacement Damage is the result of nuclear interactions, typically scattering, which cause lattice defects. Displacement damage degrades minority carrier lifetime; a typical effect would be the degradation of gain and leakage current in bipolar transistors.

Traditional radiation-hardened or “rad-hard” parts are generally considered to be capable of withstanding the most severe space environments. In fact, these devices are designed and fabricated with the specific goal of enduring the harshest space radiation environments.

Microsection analysis is performed on an assembled through hole device as a part of a failure analysis. Cross-section through the plane of interest can provide helpfully information about solder defects, PCB inner layers and internal construction. As a part of a failure analysis, the plane of interest has to be selected taking into account PCB characteristic, observed failure and previous test results.
