Commercial Space (CS) Products
- What are Commercial Space products
- CS products bridge the gap between commercial products and full space qualified hermetic QML V product
- Decades of know-how building space grade parts is being applied to make commercial parts suitable for space use
- Three product grades address the emerging and wide-ranging needs
- CSL – Low cost, high volume requirements – minimal testing and screening for LEO constellations
- CSM – Longer missions / single satellites or small constellations requiring enhanced level of product screening
- CSH – Highest screening and qualification level possible, used where no hermetic-package option is available (equivalent to QML V)
- Flows built on requirements in NASA PEM-INST-001 and SAE AS6294
- Why not just use commercial plastic components in space
- It is a matter of balancing confidence in operating reliability with cost to reach an acceptable level of risk
- Wafer traceability, lot uniformity, radiation monitors and enhanced testing/screening are not supported with commercial product
Commercial Space Flow Overview
CS Product Availability
- CS products are based on released products
- Best available grade is selected for CSL/CSM (can be automotive if available)
- CSH operating temperature target is -55/125ºC (product dependent)
- Same package as commercial version
- Matte Tin is default terminal finish (NiPdAu or SnPb may be possible)
- A minimum business case will be required to support the engineering investment
- How are products selected for CS grade
- Some roadmap parts will be implemented according to generic demands
- Specific customer and program requirements
- Process technology / design suitability (likely radiation responses)
- CS products will become generally available once implemented
- It will take some time to create a catalog of parts
CS Product Implementation
He is a Product Marketing Manager with Analog Devices based at their European R&D Centre in Limerick, Ireland. Jim has been with ADI for over 30 years in various roles including Test Engineering; Product Applications and Marketing covering various end-markets including Industrial, Telematics, Communications and Consumer Audio-Video. His current role is in supporting ADI’s European Space customers with a primary focus on RF Products for Space.
