The paper describes the activities and results of an ESA-funded project concerned with the assessment of optical amplifier technologies and products for applications in fiber optic subsystems of future satellite payloads. Onboard applications are briefly introduced, together with associated system-level requirements. Optical amplifier technologies, research achievements and products are reviewed.

The different DD level may be obtained by different particles. Proton is preferred. The energy of proton should be selected based on the proton energy spectrum inside of the spacecraft. Neutron may give underestimate test results. TID and DDD should be tested on the same group samples.

The objective of burn-in is to eliminate all potential failure likely to occur at the early phase of the product life time (also called Infant Mortality Failure).
