This presentation presents recent efforts at NASA in utilizing commercial-off-the-shelf (COTS) electronics with varying levels of “up-screening” (testing performed on manufactured parts in addition to routine testing performed by the manufacturer).
Switched-Mode Power Supplies (SMPS) are widely used in various electronic devices and systems, from consumer electronics to industrial applications. These power supplies rely on various electronic components for efficient and reliable power conversion.
Among these components, resistors play a critical role in SMPS operation and performance.
Bourns Sensors and Controls announce the release of the Model PEC11J Series 12 mm SMT Rotary Encoder.
The Bourns® Model PEC11J Series is designed for professional audio and lighting applications, consumer electronics, and any other application requiring a menu select encoder.
Stackpole releases CSSK3637 series of four terminal shunt resistors minimize the effects of lead resistance.
Designing high power products that require high efficiency performance can be challenging. Low value resistors are required to achieve efficiency; however, it is common for two terminal resistors to result in significant measurement errors due to terminal resistance.
Würth Elektronik presents WE-HEPC, its smallest NiZn-ferrite-based self-shielded power inductor to date.
Thanks to a new and completely automated manufacturing process, these power inductors provide consistently high quality and higher saturation current than any previous or known competitive product.
In all, there are 15 models available with different attributes (L: 3.3 ~ 100 μH; ISAT: 1.3 ~ 3.3 A) and in package sizes 5030 (4.8 x 4.8 x 1.8 mm) and 6030 (5.9 x 5.9 x 2.85 mm).
TDK launches industry’s smallest thin-film common mode filters for high-speed differential transmission applications to suppress noise in high-speed differential transmission, as well as high common mode attenuation.
Skin losses, also known as skin effect losses, are an important aspect of winding losses in Transformers and Inductors. When the alternating current flows through the wire, it tends to concentrate more on the outer surface due to the skin effect. This results in an underutilization of the inner part of the wire, that leads to energy losses. The current prefers the outer layers of the wire, leaving the inner layers unused.
Bourns designed the PEC11J Series encoder as a drop-in replacement for the discontinued ALPS Model EC11J and should enable customers to continue to support existing applications.
Variable resistors include Potentiometers, Rheostats and Trimmers that will be discussed in details in the following article.
Variable resistors are electromechanical components and therefore exposed not only to the weaknesses of fixed resistors but also to all the failure possibilities of electromechanics. Thus the reliability is comparatively poor.
The total resistance seldom is critical and usually follows the European E3 series or 1-2-5-10 (USA).
