ABSTRACT
TAS has evaluated ( mounting and EEE) several hundreds of COTS from many manufacturers.
When COTS are selected from High Volume production and major manufacturers implementing effective product quality assurance programs (statistical process control, continuous improvement policy, reliability monitoring, whiskers mitigation strategy, and based on their reliability data, the CA are generally showing very good construction.
Delamination in plastic packages is a generic issue; it would be very helpful to have common criteria and rules among the space industry to accept (or reject) those delaminations
Radiation qualification of active devices remains the main critical activity Tests are time and money-consuming, associated risks are quite high High skilled Radiation, and Test Engineers are key to success.
COTS have a different life cycle than HiREL devices Easiest way to prevent PCN/PDN issues is to procure the whole needs in one batch whenever possible If not, an efficient PCN/PDN survey has to be put in place EEE market crisis has a huge impact on procurement lead time Anticipation is mandatory.
